Southern Miss Housing invites Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty, staff, students, and campus organizations to be a part of the move in experience on August 18th, 19th, & 21st, 2026. If you or your department/organization are interested in volunteering, please click the link below to sign up. We encourage all volunteers to sign up before August 12th, 2026.
What does a volunteer do?
Move in volunteers play a vital role not only in assisting students with moving their items, but also by being one of the first people to greet them as they start their new journey. Your positive impact ensures that they will enjoy their time here on campus. Volunteer tasks may include:
- Providing directional assistance/traffic flow with unloading zone areas
- Verifying all vehicles have unloading zone passes on their dashboards
- Directing other volunteers to their volunteers areas
- Assisting with unloading of student belongings and transporting them to the student's room
Where do I park on move in days?
- If you are a current student, we recommend parking in the commuter lot across from the Theatre and Dance Building on Ross Boulevard. Volunteers can take the Hub City Transit Shuttle from in front of Asbury Hall on Montague Boulevard.
- If you are a faculty/staff member, we recommend parking at your normal faculty/staff lot and walking over to your assigned volunteer area. There will be extra traffic around campus, so the less vehicles, the better.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering at move in and welcoming students to campus is a rewarding experience. It will give you and your organization/department the opportunity to welcome students and their families to campus while promoting the benefits of belonging.
Other benefits include:
- Upperclass student volunteers can move in early with no extra fee
- Students who are required to have volunteer/service hours for the Fall 2026 semester can begin acquiring those hours early!
- Members of student organizations can promote your organization by wearing shirt/polos
